Thing #5 - Their Eyes


I spent some time on the Flickr site.  First of all, in '06 it turns out I stored photos of our trip to Mexico there.  Time flies.  Hadn't been back since, and meanwhile, the collection of photos on my computer has been growing and has never been easily accessed.  So, maybe I want to (1) figure out how I've been storing photos in iPhoto on my Mac, and (2) move things over to Flickr.

The second revelation I had was what a tremendous source of photos Flickr offers.  Here I've been using Google images for slide shows in the classroom to illustrate a point and stimulate their attention, and all this time I could have been dipping into the Flickr mines.    

To test Flickr for source material, I typed in "their eyes" because we're reading Their Eyes Were Watching God.  Numerous interpretations appeared that speak to the discussion we had in class, when we considered the theme of judging, God watching, us watching others.

As I examined the Flickr site more, the trite "some people have a lot of time on their hands" tap-danced through my head.  The blogs of like-minded photographers' contributions, the photo montages.  

I started to register (re-register? finish registering from '06?), but the process was too slow, so I gave up.  

Having come from the world of publications and art departments, I find it interesting how posters, photo books, publications, that once took a team of trained professionals to produce, can now be accomplished with a computer and a credit card.

Time to pick up LC-GC at the airport.

Thing #3- The Path is Clear


Related to the 7-1/2 Habits of Life-Long-Learning, the path for this experience seems very visible and clear. The 23 Things seems nicely laid out and easy to follow. Foreseeable obstacles may be time, as in having enough or spending too much. The tools to learn seem available (home computer system is running smoothly); however, using the blog technology with students, when their access is not dependable could be a problem.  


Thing #1 - 2 - I'm Up


My goal besides becoming fluent in blogging technology, is to discover what topics I personally want to blog about.  To emerge from the privacy of my head and journals, and write in an exposed manner.  

Our friend Beverly's blog inspires me.  A journalist, who supports herself with words, posts only a photo daily, with just a succinct, often humorous caption.  A work/travel diary from Taiwan.

I have just accomplished my first "I wanna". How to set links into my copy. Easy-peezy.  Done.

These are my reflections for an on-line "class" I'm taking in web 2.0.  The titles refer to assignments.
