Thing #11 - Fun With Web 2.0 Tools

With school ending in about 6 weeks, my summer to-do list is starting to take form.  Some of the tasks I look forward to doing combine "getting organized"  and "be creative" with "web tools". I've already noted, that I plan to learn what's happened to my i-photo files and get them organized on Flickr.

LCGC and I have a children's picture book idea -- Tied Together --that we can create on Lulu. My daughter will illustrate a story she suggested to me about 8 years ago.  I've written the short text, and someone on the Lulu forum has already explained how we'll produce the artwork for publication.  ". . . scan the images, crating high-quality JPG files of 300 DPI for resolution.  then you can iether add them into a Word file to mix the art and text, or use another application and upload a PDF that has all the pages laid out how you want them."

A place to list books that I want to read is  LibraryThing.  I'm not interested in logging all the books in my house, although some of my friends say they would like to do this.  There is so much to do at this site, between reading, listing, and discussing, you could never go outside.

For fun, I'm going to make myself a summer drink and read some clever, very short (one sentence) stories.  And then send some "fuzzy" emails to my friends.   They can witness the stops and starts of my composition process.

Another important task for me this summer is to write my DonorsChoose proposal: hard cover journal books for Interactive Notebooks, copies of books, poster paper, water soluble markers.

Etsy is site where you can buy and sell handmade objects.  With a little more time, I can determine if it's a worthwhile site to keep checking on, like Craigslist . . . or . . .  maybe I'll get some sewing inspiration, not to sell, but just to do for myself.

A place where I can read other English teachers' blogs that are talking about using technology is under Ning, Classroom 2.0.

We have some vacation planning still to do:  10 days??? Let's get off the beaten-path.  Where should we go for Real Travel?

The travel game is  fun!  I found myself really stretching with the photo version.

Thing #1 and Thing #2 and . . .

These are my reflections for an on-line "class" I'm taking in web 2.0.  The titles refer to assignments.
